Do's
As an investor dealing with a Research Analyst, you should:
- Deal only with SEBI-registered Research Analysts. Verify registration on the SEBI website.
- Insist on seeing the SEBI Registration Certificate before subscribing.
- Pay only to the official bank account of the Research Analyst — never to a personal account.
- Always insist on a receipt for any payment made.
- Complete KYC formalities and provide accurate information.
- Read all disclosure documents, terms & conditions and risk disclosures carefully before subscribing.
- Understand the risk profile of the recommended product and ensure it matches your own.
- Cross-verify the recommendations with publicly available information before acting.
- Take informed decisions based on your own judgement and risk tolerance.
- Maintain records of all communications, contracts and payments.
- Approach the Compliance Officer of the Research Analyst for any grievance.
- Escalate to SEBI SCORES (scores.gov.in) if the grievance is not resolved within 30 days.
- Stay alert to potential frauds — verify bank details before every payment.
Don'ts
As an investor dealing with a Research Analyst, you should not:
- Deal with unregistered entities or individuals claiming to be Research Analysts.
- Pay to any personal bank account, personal UPI handle or third-party wallet.
- Share your trading account credentials, OTPs or any sensitive personal information.
- Install any screen-sharing or remote-access apps at the request of any 'advisor'.
- Believe in 'guaranteed returns', 'risk-free trading', or 'sure-shot tips'. No SEBI-registered Research Analyst can guarantee returns.
- Pay any money for receiving 'free' tips or for participating in 'special' schemes.
- Subscribe to a service you do not understand or that exceeds your risk profile.
- Trade based on rumours, WhatsApp forwards or unsolicited calls/SMS.
- Act on recommendations received from channels other than the Research Analyst's official channels.
- Redistribute, sell or share research recommendations with third parties.
- Borrow money to subscribe to research services or to trade on recommendations.
- Fall for pressure tactics — a genuine Research Analyst will not pressure you to pay 'before the call closes'.
